About
About me
I’m in my second year of Immersive Software Engineering at the University of Limerick, currently on my R1/R2 placement with BJF Research and Development.
At BJF I build full-stack Python/PostgreSQL pipelines that ingest insider transaction data across international markets.
ISE is an integrated BSc/MSc that alternates blocks of study with industry residencies — the BJF placement is one of those. The coursework so far has run from systems programming in C through data structures and algorithms, operating systems, and computer organisation and architecture, to object-oriented design in Java, mathematics for computer science, and a year-long Entrepreneurship module. It also sets large team projects alongside the individual assignments.
The work itself has covered a few different areas:
- Peer-to-peer desktop applications — local-first, cryptographically signed, no central server
- Systems programming in C, including kernel-space work and character devices
- Refactoring a large open-source codebase to a maintainability standard, as part of a big team
- Object-oriented Java built around a strict separation between logic and interface
Away from a screen I play golf, and represent UL in tennis and athletics.
I take the business side of engineering as seriously as the code.
